Yorkshire animal breeds
Yorkshire has a long history of agriculture and has produced some of the most famous breeds worldwide. If you’ve ever eaten a bacon sandwich, you’ve got Yorkshire to thank for it. Most pigs farmed the world over come from the Large White variety bred in Yorkshire (leading the breed to be known elsewhere as the Yorkshire Pig). Ever been to the races? Chances are you were cheering on an English Thoroughbred that was an ancestor of the original Yorkshire stock. And let’s not forget the ever popular Yorkshire Terrier, an icon for the county.
Most famous of all though is that dour, thrifty, hardworking breed – the Yorkshire Tyke!
